Residents can now meet in a designated parking area at the Francom Public Safety Building (2186 Lincoln Avenue) to exchange items and conduct business. On July 26th, the Ogden City Council and Mayor adopted a joint resolution establishing this as an exchange zone.
The increasing popularity of Internet sales through classified advertisements has caused many individuals to purchase or sell items to strangers. In some instances, criminals have used these exchanges to victimize potential buyers and sellers. The exchange zone is intended to provide residents with a video-recorded location to transact private business and to serve as a neutral site where family visitation obligations can be accommodated.
“The exchange zone is ultimately designed to provide a comfortable location to meet and conduct business. Residents will now have the option to use the exchange zone any time they are unsure about meeting with someone,” City Council Vice Chair Bart Blair said. “We appreciate the incredible efforts of the Police Department to support this initiative and provide this option to residents.”
